Who doesn't recognize this question?
When you are at a crossroads in your life.
When you have to make a choice, for example about your studies or work.
When life goes differently than you expected.
When you are searching for the meaning of life.
When the needs around you or in your own life overwhelm you.
Suddenly, these questions can arise.
The Bible, the Book of God, gives answers to our life questions. The Bible tells us about the God of life, about the beginning of life, and why we are here on earth.
God made us; He is our Creator. He made us good, with the purpose of loving Him, honoring Him, and living as He asks of us. In the Bible, God tells us what His will is. It also says that doing His will brings true happiness, true life, because God is good. He says: ‘Do this and you will live!’
In our lives, we are often not truly happy. We notice that life has struggles and unrest, and also brings sorrow and questions. Maybe this is true in your life as well?
This shows that something has gone wrong. But where? This happened at the fall into sin. Then Adam and Eve, the first people, chose to listen not to God but to the devil. From that moment, they lost the purpose of their lives. For themselves, but also for everyone born after them. Adam switched the track for all people, because he represented us. And we can feel that. Just as Adam and Eve did, all people still sin. These are the wrong things we think, say, and do. And the punishment for sin is death.
Fortunately, we read more in the Bible. Death does not have the last word. Life is not without purpose. Renewal, restoration is possible!
Because the Son of God, Jesus Christ, came to this earth. He came to do the will of God by keeping God’s law. He also came to pay for sin by suffering and dying. He did this voluntarily and out of love. And not only that, He also rose from the dead. Through His death and resurrection, He paved the way to God. Because of this, true life is possible again!
If you come to know Jesus Christ through faith, your life is restored as it was at creation. We call this re-creation. That is a life in a restored relationship with God, as your Savior, your Helper, your Guide. His will, as described in the Bible, then becomes important to you. Then it is not hard to live that way, because you love God.
Jesus showed on earth that the will of God is good. He opened the eyes of the blind, He healed the sick. He was willing to do anything to make unhappy people happy again. Only through Jesus can we also come to know God, our Creator, and live with Him. Jesus not only paved the way, but He Himself is the way back to God. He said: “I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life!” Bible: John 14:6. That is why we must come to know Him personally!
Through Him, forgiveness of all our sins is possible. That gives comfort and hope in this life and after this life.
During His life here on earth, Jesus said to the people: Repent, and believe the Gospel. (Mark 1:15)
What is repentance? The biblical words for repentance have two meanings. First, repentance means ‘to have remorse’. Repentance begins in the heart with sorrow over sin. Second, repentance means: ‘to turn around’. That means: turn to Me, also break with the wrong things (the sins). Do not seek happiness in yourself any longer, in thinking you are important. Do not seek it in the world either, by always wanting more. The fulfillment of life can never be found there.
Today God also says to you: Seek Me, and live! (Amos 5:4) and Those who seek Me early will find Me! (Proverbs 8:17)
Then life regains its true purpose: to love God, to seek His will, and to learn to live accordingly. Jesus calls this: loving God with all your heart, with all that is in you, and your neighbor as yourself. Bible: Mark 12:30. Then our Creator takes first place in our lives again. And after this life, you will be with God in heaven forever, which means without end. There is no more sin, and therefore no more trouble, pain, or mourning. That is truly living!
John 17:3
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent!
