"'No, that can't be true!'| Good Friday and Easter 2024"

'No, that can't be true!' Some moments in our lives are so unlikely or have such an impact that we can hardly or do not want to believe that it is really true. For the followers of Jesus, Good Friday and Easter were also two such events.

Good Friday is the day on which Jesus died on the cross. With false accusations, the Roman city governor was pressured by the religious leaders to sentence Jesus to death, and so it happened. His followers could hardly believe it: Jesus dead? But He is the Son of God, isn’t He? He is the Messiah, isn’t He? No, that can’t be true!

But in the days that followed, their amazement grew even greater. Because when some women went to Jesus’ tomb three days later—on Easter morning—to anoint His body, they discovered that the tomb was empty! Two angels told them that Jesus had risen from the dead, and shortly after, they met Him in person. The women were then sent to tell the others as well. Their first reaction? ‘No, that can’t be true!’

Maybe you also think: ‘Jesus who died and rose from the dead? No, that can’t be true!’

Or could it?

Because on Good Friday and Easter, exactly what Jesus had already told His followers happened:

‘And He began to teach them that the Son of Man (Jesus) must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the law, and that He must be killed and after three days rise again’ (Mark 8:31).

Jesus died in place of all who (will) believe in Him and conquered death for them. After His resurrection, He appeared to many of His followers. In the years that followed, Christian communities arose everywhere, and to this day, people are convinced by God Himself that Jesus lives. For this, He uses the Bible, His message to this world. His message to you. Read it and pray that He will also fill your heart with faith, hope, and love.
