Origin of Life | Adam and Eve

Bible: Genesis 1 and 2

You have probably been impressed by the nature around you at some point. The roaring of the sea, the mighty mountains, or simply a small flower with beautiful colors in an open field. In such moments, you might pause for a while. You listen to the singing of the birds and marvel at the fluttering of a butterfly. It all speaks of life. It paints for us an impressive creation. It makes us ask questions: where does this come from? Where do we come from? It whispers to us: do you see Who is behind all this? The Bible answers these questions.

THE BIBLE IS THE BOOK OF GOD

The Bible tells us about the beginning of life. Already on the first page, it says that God existed before anything else. God is eternal, which means without beginning and without end. An awe-inspiring thought. And this God created the earth out of nothing. God can do everything; He is almighty.

God is also your Creator. He made mankind wonderfully and beautifully. The first people were Adam and Eve. They resembled their Creator. It was clear that God had made them. Adam and Eve knew God. They loved Him and did what He wanted. They lived with God and were completely happy. They had no sorrow, no pain or sickness, and there was no death.

God had given Adam and Eve a beautiful garden (Paradise) on this earth. Adam and Eve experienced God's love every moment. God had given them everything they needed to live well and walk their path in peace. Paradise was full of fruit trees; every day there was more than enough for them. For God is a God of abundance.

WHAT A GOOD BEGINNING OF LIFE

But where has that gone? The earth no longer resembles Paradise at all. What happened that everything is now so different? Yes, on the one hand, we still see traces around us of that impressive beginning. Think of the beauty of untouched nature or the tenderness of a newborn baby. At the same time, there is also hardship, struggle, and sorrow. Many people are hungry, suffer pain, or are ill. In addition, in our own lives and the lives of others, we are confronted with selfishness, hatred, envy, and all kinds of evil that we inflict on each other. And the inevitable death hangs over our lives like a shadow.

We read in the Bible, the Book of God, how this came to be.
Adam and Eve were allowed to eat from all the trees and enjoy the delicious fruits, except for one tree. God is the Maker and therefore also the Owner of everything. He rightly asks for voluntary love and obedience from His creature, man. For Adam and Eve, this was not difficult, because God had made them completely good and they wanted nothing more than to listen to God.

But one day, everything went terribly wrong. Adam and Eve let themselves be tempted by the devil. He was created before man. And he became the first and greatest enemy of God. The devil first lived as a good angel with God, but he wanted to be more powerful than God and therefore rebelled against Him. As a result, there was no longer a place for him in heaven, because evil does not belong with God. The devil therefore sought his prey on this earth, in the jewel of God's creation: mankind. He cunningly twisted God's words. Adam and Eve listened to this liar and ate from that one tree they were not allowed to eat from.

The consequences are terrible. From that moment on, they not only knew what was good, but also learned about evil. Because they had lived in a perfectly pure nature until then, clothing was not necessary for them. But because of sin, they began to be ashamed of their nakedness. They became afraid of God and fled from Him. They blamed each other for what had happened, and the first quarrel arose.

GOD'S GOOD CREATION HAS BECOME A CHAOS

The perfect harmony has disappeared and in its place has come death. As punishment for disobedience. A gripping reality that we all have to deal with.

Is that all there is to say? If so, why are we still alive? Why does the earth still exist? Is God still in control? Where is He?

Has God abandoned the earth and humanity to fate? No, because while everything on earth has changed, God has not changed. We also read this in the Bible. God's first reaction after the disobedience of Adam and Eve shows His love and goodness. Even before the fall into sin, God's plan of redemption was ready. Already in eternity, God's Son had declared Himself willing to bear the punishment for sin. That is why the God of life could seek out Adam and Eve. God called to the trembling Adam. 'Where are you?' His voice sounded in the broken world. God spoke with Adam and Eve. He asked what had happened. He listened to their answers. Adam blamed Eve. Eve blamed the devil.

And God? What did He do? Immediately after the fall into sin, God made an impressive promise. God did not abandon fallen mankind to fate, but said: I Myself will come to this earth. I will come to fight against evil, I will come to conquer death! I will come to break the power of My adversary, the devil, and to save people again, to make them blessed (that is, completely happy).

GOD GIVES NEW LIFE

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. God promised Adam and Eve His Son Jesus. God is completely good, holy, and just. Therefore, He cannot accept evil or overlook it. God must punish disobedience because He is just. But God tells us that His Son was willing to bear the punishment. There is a way back to God. A way that God Himself has devised. A way that Jesus Christ has made.

We too live without God, but God still seeks people. He also calls you: where are you? He asks you: turn to Me and believe in Jesus Christ, My Son. God changes the lives of people who still live without Him. He wants to restore what we have broken. He wants to give new life out of grace!
